The BEAM Alliance has just announced the release of its first position paper, in which the Alliance advocates three key short term measures to reinvigorate antimicrobial research across Europe and stoke the antibiotic pipeline: (1) create a specific fund dedicated to small and medium biopharmas developing innovative antibacterial products, (2) enhance market incentives to increase the Return on Investment for products tackling antimicrobial resistance through the creation of a special status, (3) simplify regulatory pathways for products tackling antimicrobial resistance.
The BEAM Alliance, co-founded by Da Volterra a few months ago, regroups 40 European biopharmaceutical companies developing new antibacterial products. They together urge national and Europeans authorities to adapt public policies and regulatory frameworks to the specific issues of antimicrobial products development.
